19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the big events and suffering a setback at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in especial - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with former trainer Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy after the Italian tournament and first on a hard court from March of the previous year.

Victory also signifies he has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters together, so to secure a trophy is really nice," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in that event earlier this year.

The player's retrieving approach and regular outbursts on the tennis court had caused commentators to wonder if his skill to perform at the top level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the first set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a third set.

The opponent saved four early chances in a competitive third set before the champion secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured the title with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
