World Series Game 7 Captures 51 Million Audience Members In the US, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting 11-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined over 50 million watchers in the US, Canadian, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball reported this is the most-watched World Series Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable contest drew over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a 16% increase compared to the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the climactic game recorded over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a single network in the country.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-match series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two straight years.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the complete American average was over 16 million. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent rise over last year and Fox’s best postseason ratings after 2017.

MLB reported that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 different languages.
